Nampa School District: Combating State’s High Suicide Rates

Balancing a Good Education with Healthy Behaviors

The Challenge:

A leading concern for schools nationwide, youth behavioral health is of particular importance for educational institutions in Idaho. The second-leading cause of death for Idahoans aged 15- to 34-years-old, suicide touches many educational institutions and their students and families every year in a state where the suicide rate is 58% higher than the national average.

Nampa School District is no exception and is working to help students successfully balance the demands of a good education with healthy behaviors in a region of the country where that’s not always easy to attain.

A Multifaceted Behavioral Health Initiative

The Solution:

As part of a multifaceted youth behavioral health initiative, the Nampa School District implemented Gaggle, a student safety platform, that allows it to listen to students’ digital chatter and intervene appropriately as needed.

A Valuable Tool Enhancing Student Safety

The Results:

The district has intervened in and prevented numerous potential acts of suicide since implementing a more rigorous approach to suicide prevention a few years ago. Gaggle has proven itself as a valuable tool in the mission to enhance student safety.

Serving approximately 26,000 students across 37 schools, this Texas district turned to Gaggle to help prevent student suicides and self-harm. The district has since intervened in suicide situations after receiving Gaggle alerts.
Gaggle provides an extra set of eyes to help this Tennessee district intervene in student safety incidents involving suicide, self-harm, and the sharing of inappropriate content.
