Balancing Student Safety and Privacy

Gaggle’s mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of students and schools by leveraging people and technology. We are united with our K-12 district partners across the country around one shared goal: to help keep students safe. This includes students’ personal information, and our staunch commitment to supporting student safety without compromising privacy has earned the trust of K-12 districts nationwide.

Several district leaders shared their thoughts with us on the importance of student safety and maintaining privacy. “Only when it is an issue of safety are we going to intervene or be able to pass that on,” said Denise Moody, Director of Student Services at Rochester Public Schools in Minnesota. “So I think that both can be achieved by a very careful and thoughtful way of how you’re using that information.”

Gaggle’s new Trust and Privacy Center details our commitment to keeping all student and staff data secure. Here, you’ll find information about how Gaggle prioritizes data privacy, our compliance with federal privacy laws, insightful resources, FAQs, and more.

We take data security very seriously. All data is stored in secure data centers as well as on the Amazon Web Services cloud. In addition, Gaggle has completed the most stringent third-party security audit—a SOC 2 Type 2 audit. Our assessors’ review of our technology and practices resulted in a final SOC 2 report free of any disclosures, which evidences Gaggle’s unwavering commitment to information security and keeping our customers’ data safe.

“Last school year, we analyzed about 10 billion items. It’s important to say this is the data that belongs to the schools,” said Jeff Patterson, Gaggle’s founder and CEO. “We are signers on the Student Data Privacy Pledge that’s put out by the Future Privacy Forum, so we don’t use the data for any purposes other than for school safety. The data is kept in secure systems and purged at the request of the districts.”
